UPDATE: Peace Bomber Offest Up For Sale

May 7, 2009

Head on over to Obey’s website to pick up a Peace Bomber Offset. They’re up fo sale, but unlike most Shepard Fairey releases, you can take your time—it’s an open edition, all signed, and there are about 1,000 printed at the moment. Still, they could easily sell out the current stock before the day is over (maybe within a few hours), so go now if you want yours in your house and on your wall soon. Pick one up here: Peace Bomber Offset.

Music For Pree

May 5, 2009

So, while staring at the header for this page and contemplating what my colleague was thinking when choosing the name (I think he huffs copious amounts of glue) I realized that I am allowed to post random stuff I like. Now, while I do have a reputation as somewhat of a hater (hate hate hate!) there are some things I do like. One thing I have been into recently is this band called Pree. Now if you are not into female vocalists and/or prog-folk (a term I just made up), scroll down and save your time. Otherwise, it is a group that you should check out. They are a DC based band that just released their first EP on Kora Records. One of the members/vocalists is from the DC band Le Loup, whose debut album recieved really good reviews and is also solid. Really nice melody, and the vocals are pretty sweet too.You can check out a few songs on their MySpace page, and their entire EP entitled “A Chopping Block” is available on iTunes.

Artist Spolight of the Day: Rene Gagnon

May 5, 2009

So I decided to do a write-up on a guy that many people may know in hopes of spreading the word even more. Rene Gagnon describes his work as “Post-Graffiti Abstract Expressionism: Bridging the Gap Between Urban Graffiti Art and Contemporary Abstract Expressionism”. I just describe it as really cool. Whatever you want to call his style is up to you, just make sure to check out some of his stuff for sale on paper and on canvas. He also has a show coming up in the fall (will talk more about that later) and has been hitting the streets with some new work that will be in his upcoming show – check his twitter for pics here.  I threw in some images of a couple of his works in case you’re too lazy to head on over to his site right now, but I strongly urge you to do so at some point in the near future. Anyways, here you go…

New Dan McCarthy

May 5, 2009

Dan McCarthy just dropped his May print (well, technically it dropped yesterday) called Dark Days which you can snag a copy of here. It will set you back $40 (plus s+h) and should be a run in the 500s. Its also worth looking into his print of the month club, which is well worth the cost.

‘My Dishonest Heart’ from Audrey Kawasaki

May 5, 2009

Audrey just sent out an email to her mailing list and posted on her website announcing the release of the giclee version of her painting ‘My Dishonest Heart’. It will be put up for sale at 12:00 pm PST (3:00 pm for us east coasters) on Saturday May 9th. The cost is $100 (or $235 framed with uv acrylic, acid-free backing, etc.) with an edition size of 200. You can pick the print up here when it goes on sale. Make sure to register on her site because it’s the only way you can buy one. One more piece of advice, be on time because these sell out ridiculously fast. There’s no lag time or crashing servers, so if you’re not there right when the clock strikes 1200 (pst) then you probably don’t stand a chance. good luck! (we’re all going to need it)

Matt Davis – Nothing is Fucked

May 5, 2009

Speaking of getting stuff while you still can, get yourself on over to the site of Matt Davis and grab yourself a Nothing is Fucked print. It’s from the Signed and Numbered Gallery’s This Aggression Will Not Stand, Man, show (for those of you who don’t appreciate cinematographic genius, it was a show dedicated to the timeless classic, The Big Lebowski). These things only cost $15 (plus s+h) and are totally worth the cost. The background design is intricate, and it looks great in a frame (if I get a little less lazy I’ll take a picture of mine and post it). Oh, did I mention that the nail polish is real nail polish? Gotta appreciate the OCD level attention to detail. They are out of 100, and I got one in the 70s, so get them while you still can.  They also make amazing stocking stuffer for your Lebowski loving brother/sister/creepy uncle.

Audrey Kawasaki – Upcoming Show

May 5, 2009

Word of this show has already been circulating around the art blogs, forums, etc. for a little while now, but I couldn’t sit back and not post about one of my absolute favorite artists—Audrey Kawasaki. Her new show that opens 5/7 at Space Yui in Tokyo is called “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi”. There’s an awesome interview with her over at ArrestedMotion where she talks about the show, her take on Japan, and other interesting things. Check it out here. You can get great updates on what’s going on with Audrey at here blogs: “Okonomide” and “Kimagure Gaki“. You can also see all of her works over on her website audrey-kawasaki.com. She just posted pictures of some pieces from her upcoming show, including a few process shots, on Okonomide- check them out. They look absolutely incredible and I can’t pick a favorite so I posted a few below.

UPDATE: If you’re looking to get one of her paintings or one of her sold out prints, then head on over to the Space Yui list page for her show. (Warning: prices are not cheap, but totally worth it if you have the cash)

Nate Duval – Get Em While You Can

May 5, 2009

So Nate Duval’s Copper City print came out a while ago, and his Silver City day / night prints have been out even longer. But the good news is, they are still available.  My friend got the Silver City prints (both day and night) and while he enjoy how sick they look, I sat around kicking myself for missing out. Randomly I was on his site and saw that he still had a few of each print available. So I jumped an bought all 3 (ok, so I might have been a little overeager). I got them the other day and they are amazing. The pictures on his site don’t really do them justice. They are way more detailed and intricate in person. Seriously, they are ridiculous. They are in the $40-$65 range, but definitely worth it. And, to prove that he is an all around awesome dude, he sent me an AP of his Night Time in the City print, which is a cool move on his part. Silver City prints after the jump.

Kenyonb

May 5, 2009

So while perusing the internet, I stumbled upon the site of Kenyonb. I recall seeing some of his stuff before, but never really knew who was behind it. After checking out his site, I must say the guy has a sense of humor (at least a sick one). He has some pretty slick one of a kind stuff, although I will say I’d find it real hard to cough up $500 for one of em. On the cheaper side, he has some sweet low run prints for $30. One of my favorites after the jump

Peace Bomber

May 4, 2009

So, before you read on, I am going to let you know I have a slight bias when it comes to all things Shepard Fairey. I realize that it is my own personal problem, and that a lot of people are huge fans of Fairey (my comrade here at BSDS likes a lot of his stuff), and I understand why. But most of his recent prints just don’t do it for me (I am looking right at you Obey Eye [pun very much intended]). With all that being said, I must say the Peace Bomber print is one of my favorites. And better yet Obey just announced that it will be selling an open edition offset of the black Peace Bomber print. This is a great chance to get one of these at a good price ($35 plus s+h). These will be dropping this Thursday (5/7). Check here for a heads up when it’s up in the obey store.
